“You have mortgaged your freedom for the appreciation of other people,” warned the teacher. “You can’t live your life based on the reassurance you find in the eyes of another person and still hope to be happy.”

DIFFERENCE

Plutarch tells the story of Alexander the Great who came upon Diogenes looking attentively at a heap of human bones.

“What are you looking for?” asked Alexander.

“Something that I cannot find,” said the philosopher.

“And what is that?”

“The difference between your father’s bones and those of his slaves.”
